Cannes Independent Film Festival

Who Killed Chea Vichea? is going to Cannes — the Cannes Independent Film Festival (CIFF), that is. The independent festival takes place in Cannes alongside the main festival, but is not part of the main festival. So get excited...but not too excited.

Nonetheless, we're very pleased that filmgoers, buyers and distributors in Cannes will have a chance to see the film.

The screening will be sometime from May 12 to 23. Watch this space for details; they should be posted in early May.

6th anniversary, and Big Sky screening

On this, the sixth anniversary of the murder of Chea Vichea, we are happy to announce that the one-hour version of Who Killed Chea Vichea? is in the final stages of post-production.

The next screening will be on February 14th, in Missoula, Montana, at the widely respected Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. If you've seen one of our preview screenings, please visit the film's page on the festival site and add your review. And of course if you're anywhere near Missoula, we hope you'll attend.

In Phnom Penh today, hundreds marched to commemorate Vichea and to demand justice in the case. The union that Vichea led threatened a week-long nationwide strike unless the government arrests the actual killers.

Here's a video report from RFA (in Khmer):

Screening in Providence - Aug 7

Having grown up in beautiful Providence, RI, I'm happy to announce that next Friday, August 7, Who Killed Chea Vichea? will screen (in a near-complete state) in the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

This is an excellent festival to get into, with a packed schedule of interesting films running all week. (I'm hoping to to see Sweet Crude, among others.)

I'm especially pleased that
Who Killed Chea Vichea? will be shown in the historic Columbus Theater, where so many have enjoyed the great works of cinema over the years. If you're from Providence you know what I mean.

Better move quickly on to the details...

Who Killed Chea Vichea?
Friday August 7, at 5:20pm
Columbus Theater
, 270 Broadway
Providence, Rhode Island

(Included in this screening, the short films In Their Boots: Broken Promise by Abe Greenwald and Open Air by Shira-Lee Shalit)

Preview screening: Seoul, Korea

Chengye Plaza, the scene of the 13th Annual Seoul Human Rights Film Festival.

All films are screened outdoors, free to the public, as the festival organizers refuse to ask for official clearance for each film, and therefore can't rent a hall. That's an attitude we like!

Who Killed Chea Vichea? screened June 5th and 14th.
